Handmade Buzz Lightyear backpack/rucksack

HANDEMADE BUZZ LIGHTYEAR BACKPACK - USING DEBBIE SHORE'S TUTORIAL

Whatabout ye folks, it's Lee here.  I wanted to show you a little backpack I made for my 2 year old nephew, Alfie, who is Buzz Lightyear mad (LOOK TILLY....YOU WERE RIGHT, TEEHEE).  I made my other 2 nieces their own Harry Potter backpacks (here & here) and it was time for Alfie to get his own too.  He wanted Buzz Lightyear, so I purchased a few fat quarter bundles to make it (details of items below) again following the Debbie Shore backpack tutorial with a few Crafty Loops adjustments.

As usual, we have the expanding side pockets that are perfect for water bottles/juice bottles etc

The back straps are of course adjustable and will grow with Alfie.  I can't wait to see him rocking this to Nursery.

I added a zip pocket to this backpack.  This isn't in Debbie's tutorial but she shows how to add zips in tonnes of her tutorials.  I thought it would be a handy addition as it's on the back of the backpack, therefore making it more secure as it's against your back.  Plus added storage is always a good thing....more room for toys, lol

I added a backpack toggle along with the backpack clasp for added security.  But as Alfie is only 2, I added the magnetic snap too.  So if he just wants to close it that way, he can.  And as he gets older and he can tackle clasps, he has them there too.  The clasp is also good for Mummy and Daddy too, teehee....at least, I think they are big enough to use the backpack clasp....teehee

I used the lighter fat quarter fabrics for the inside so you can see what's in the bag and there is a simple patch pocket on the inside.

Alfie absolutely loves Buzz Lightyear.....in fact, it was Buzz that he was putting into his travel bag that I made him.  But he has his own wee backpack to stick Buzz into now.
